During the early decades following the company´s establishment, it was focussed primarily on providing services for the mining industry. Operations included sinking shafts and driving of shaft-landings and openings next to the shaft for active mines as well as producing shafts and drifts for mineral exploration purposes.

In the 1970s, the demands placed on SCHACHTBAU NORDHAUSEN GmbH grew. The company introduced state-of-the-art rock driving and tunneling methods as well as roadheaders to drive drifts.

The fundamental structural changes to the economy beginning in 1989/90 following German reunification, entailing the shutdown of entire mining segments, rapid developments in the underground construction sector and the opening-up of new projects in the field of transport infrastructure led us to expand our portfolio of existing competencies and develop new skills and techniques.

The experience of our mining specialists and engineers proved invaluable in the success we achieved.

Nevertheless, our traditional know-how in specialist mining services was retained and continually enhanced. Demand in this sector has been growing again for some time, both at home and abroad.

The MINING WORKS division today offers the full package of underground engineering and mining services, and here too the business os becoming more and more international in its scope.
